I'm using IBM FileNet 5.5.8 and using Microsoft SQL Server for the GCD database, OS database, and the IBM Content Navigator database.
I'm planning to create new environment for IBM FileNet and using the old Object Store database when performing the FileNet Configuration Manager.

Is there a method while deploying IBM FileNet using the database and its credential to still maintain the objects like classes, properties, and its documents that stored in the database to still accessible while creating the object store from ACCE?

Is there any considerations while running the Configure Object Store Data Source?

Hi Dhandy.  There is a process to reassign an object store from one domain to another domain.  If both your old domain and the new domain are available, and are both configured to use the same directory configuration, then this may be a good option for you:

If you're only wanting to move one object store from a source 5.5.8 CPE to a newly installed 5.5.8, and keep the rest of the source environment as it is, then reassigning the object store (as Joe suggested) is the best method.  However, if you're looking to migrate all object stores and content, with the intention of decommissioning the source system, you can follow the documentation for upgrading to a new application server instance or new hardware:  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/filenet-p8-platform/5.5.x?topic=ucpes-configuring-content-platform-engine-into-new-application-server-instance 

Instead of installing an upgraded version on the target system as the documentation suggest, you'll just install the same 5.5.8 version.

Hi Dhandy.  I assume that you meant FileNet Deployment Manager, not FileNet Configuration Manager.  Deployment Manager is the tool that is used to re-assign object stores.

If the data sources in the destination domain point to a backup of the original database, that should be fine.  The destination domain must have connectivity to any storage areas or full text search services that are used by the object store.  There are a lot of pre-requisites that must be met for the re-assign object store operation to succeed.  Please make sure that you have met all of the pre-requisites discussed here:  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/filenet-p8-platform/5.5.x?topic=store-validating-object-stores-reassignment

Please also make sure that the object store is deleted from the source domain before the destination domain starts using it.

Based on what you've said, a copy of the production database is already being used in your new environment. So, if you need to pick up a newer version of the production database, you would do the following:

1. Stop the CPE in the new environment
2. Drop the database from the new database server
3. Create a new copy of the existing production object store database
4. Restore the new copy to the new database server
5. Restart the new CPE server

You would only use the reassign object store capability if there are other object stores in your old environment that you want to use in the new environment
