    Hi,

    We use MQ Appliance M2001B, we have our own datacenters and at this moment every  MQ client component is in our LAN locally.  MQ clients are integrated IBM WAS 8.0  MQ clients but also custom Java JMS clients.

    We have a plan to create a remote environment somewhere in the world on a large distance of our datacenters. 
    This remote environment contains MQ clients which connects with our MQ server in our datacenter and put/gets messages on the queues at our queuemanager of the MQ Appliance. 

    We use a VPN connection,  a tunnel, to connect the remote environment with our LAN, so the remote envrionment becomes a part of our LAN.  We have a latency about 60 ms. Allthough its a VPN we can't control the latency, so maybe one day the latency is 400 ms, I don't know.

    Is this a good architecture, is this a best practice ?

    In the meantime we have consulted our IBM Contacts in Holland and we have answers at this questions, also the lab is consulted: It is no problem to use this kind of arhitecure.

    There is a free utility you can implement to test the abilities of your MQ environment. It will allow you to send test messages back and forth and will record the timing information in a log format that you can import into a spreadsheet (for example). It's totally free, and should help you validate your configuration.
