    In my experience I have always migrated rootvg by executing a mksysb but apparently they have tested the above method and suggest that it ok.

    does anyone have any input on this method or pitfalls, its worth noting that all systems are at the latest fixpack levels for the relevant OS

    Maybe a little late for you but I have used alt_disk_copy to build a volume and present to another LPAR. Check the command options for sure. -O is useful as it will reset the device configuration thus making it a little cleaner to alter the network configuration.
