I am new to IBM ACE and want to understand the .lock file in the context of multi-instance environments.

One is active (s1 server) and the other is standby (s2 server). These instances are controlled by NFS.
I found a "locks" folder that contains a bipbroker.lock file. This file holds the hostname of the active server.

    Questions-

How is the lock file generated? (what I have found so far, it generates when the integration node starts on the active server)
What are the usages of the lock file?

    Thank you,
