Multiple devices are experiencing occasional glitches in the URL blacklisting completely failing to block blacklisted sites. Is anyone else experiencing this on MDM Android Enterprise policies in Chrome?

There is a known Chrome issue with the URL allowlist and blocklist in Chrome not applying immediately when Chrome launches from a cold start. It can take as much as 5-10 seconds for the policies to be applied internally by Chrome, once the user taps the Chrome icon on the home screen, if Chrome wasn't already running in the background. In that time, the user can navigate to blocked websites.

This occurs with any MDM, including Google's own "TestDPC" reference application, as it is a Chrome problem.

MaaS360 has an open ticket with Google, but they have not provided any updates recently.

Thank you, Marius for this helpful information. In our experience, the delay in policy uptake can be 5+ mins. Meaning once a blacklisted site is already loaded access continues unabated. Would a different browser compatible with Android devices avoid this issue?

Hi Lori - the MaaS360 Secure Browser offers granular URL blocklisting capabilities.  I would check with your account rep to see if this is included in your current MaaS360 bundle.

Alternatively the Microsoft Edge browser for Android allows for URL filtering via AppConfig workflows.  It's not as popular as others, so you may get some pushback from employees, but it is a viable alternative.
