I think some of your questions should be answered in the readme.txt that comes with the software. I would recommend recompiling the maps in tx8, it might be possible to run a batch command at the command line using mcompile.exe to do a bulk recompile (that's what I'm going to try and do). I think the main advantage is that if you have a problem the first thing you might be asked (by support) is "did you recompile?" and if not they might not be interested until you have ....

I'm pretty sure that defects have been raised, but I can never find any in the knowledgebase (in fact I can never find anything in that! -> can anyone else?). Does anyone know where we can find known issues online?

I'll keep you posted on our upgrade path too (we've started testing current 6.7.1 maps in tx8 already).

In our case we do not use the CommerceManager we just use the EventServer part of the mercator and since we run in UNIX

You can buiild (compile) maps in the Integration Flow Designer a system at a time or you can create a script using the sdeploy utility. You can also create scripts using mcomplie.

If you using XML type trees derived from DTDs or XML Schemas, you will also want to rebuild the type trees before compiling the maps. See Page 3-2 of the What's New Reference Guide.
