  • 1.  upgrade from db2 11.1.7 to db2 11.5 fp1 - setup.exe doesnot launch

    Hello
    I need to upgrade from db2 11.1.7 to 11.5 on windows 64-bit

    I downloaded the universal fixpak - v11.5.5fp1_ntx64_universal_fixpack

    When I run the setup.exe, it doesnot launch the UI ... there is no action .

    how do I troubleshoot this ? Could it be due to wrong installer ?

    I quickly checked on my Windows:


    Did you start setup.exe from elevated prompt (run as Administrator)?
    Did you missed prompt (sorry for the Polish - not my laptop) basically Windows Defender objected to unrecognized issuer of the executable:

    I used this image:

    I would recommend to use latest fixpack for 11.5 if you object to Db2 V12.1:


    After allowing Installation from the unknown issuer - after a moment I got prompt to unpack files:

    Warren,

    If you are using the Community edition of DB2, you need to use the
    "DB2 Server Fix Pack" version.

    If you are using a licensed DB2 edition, you need to use the
    "DB2 Universal Fix Pack" version.

    More info on the difference between Server and Universal fix packs:

    Prior to DB2 V10.1, fix packs could only be installed on licensed
    product installs.  Developer edition and Express-C editions could
    not have fix packs installed.

    Starting with DB2 V10.1, you can download from the DB2 fix pack page
    any version and fix pack level and do a full installation.

    Fix packs come in two versions:
    * DB2 Server Fix Pack
      Contains the DB2 Universal Fix Pack, plus the base code for all DB2
      products.  Install the DB2 Server Fix Pack if you need to install
      any of the DB2 Server Editions.
      ==> Use this version if you are running the free developer, AKA
          Community edition (old Express-C) version of DB2. 

    * DB2 Universal Fix Pack
      The DB2 Universal fix pack contains all the fixes to APARs up to the
      current fix pack.  It is used to upgrade any installed DB2 product
      without removing the old product and installing the new.  This is
      called "in place upgrade".
      ==> Use this version if you paid for a DB2 license.

    Thanks Jan and Scot for the responses 

    I will try again with the latest fixpak for 11.5 . (unfortunately my Windows version doesnot meet the pre-requisites for the latest 12.1 version )
    Will watch out for any prompt in case something is blocking

    Hi guys

    I downloaded the latest fixpak for 11.5 and was able to complete the installation successfully.

    Just to share ... I hit the same error as earlier when trying to launch the setup.exe . It just doesn't do anything 

    upon further scrutiny, I discovered that the unzip path has a space in the folder name. After I renamed the folder to remove the space (IBM db2v11.5 to IBM_db2v11.5 ) , the setup.exe works properly.

    A basic mistake caused few days delay. lesson learnt

    For clarification - IBM setup would detect embedded spaces in path name (even if you properly quoted directory path when invoking setup.exe (quoting names with special characters is standard operating procedure for Windows):
