  • 1.  Upgrade from Cognos Analytics 11.1.7 FP7 to Cognos Analytics with Watson

    1. What is the upgrade path for this (from Cognos Analytics 11.1.7 FP7 to Cognos Analytics with Watson) - or can this be done seamlessly?

    2. Also, when our data sources move to the Cloud, do we have to upgrade our Cognos Analytics on-premise installs to the cloud version? What changes/modifications do we need to make on the data sources, data servers connections to use the cloud data sources?

    Hi Arnulfo. 1) Yes, it is the same " over the top installation" procedure.

    Here are some problems from my installations:

    ApacheDS does not start anymore - error 1067 / ApacheDS files are missing / wrapper.exe  --> copy apache files from backup
    IBM Cognos Analytics services no longer start --> Cognos Configuration needs to be checked and saved
    Dashboards no longer open after upgrade  -->  reinstall extensions (check accelerator catalog for newest versions)

    Hi,

    As Jens indicated, the upgrade is straightforward. You can do an "over the top" install of 11.2 over 11.1.7, or you can install 11.2 alongside and deploy your 11.1.7 content over to this if you want to do a period of simultaneous testing (you'll need a different content store database and different port numbers for this).

    You can connect your on-prem CA instance to cloud data sources, so moving your data to the cloud doesn't necessitate you moving your Cognos instance into the cloud, unless it makes sense to do this for other reasons.
