There can be multiple approaches to do so, which can be looked into below:
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ibm-mq/9.2?topic=methods-migration-mq-multiplatforms#q127240_
Fix packs would have to be uninstalled for the in-place upgrade. If you don't want to do so, you can look into the side-by-side approach, where
-You install the newer version in a different installation directory.
- Stop applications and other MQ processes on the server and uninstall the older version
- Set the newer version as the primary installation using setmqinst
- Start the queue manager, and test

Subject: Upgrade from 9.1.0.5
Hello!
We are currently still on IBM MQ 9.1.0.5 installed on Linux Centos 7. The configuration is 2 separate servers with IBM MQ installed sharing an NFS mount on /var/mqm. We are looking to upgrade to 9.2.0.x. I am looking at the various instructions but am confused because some pages say I need to do an uninstall of everything while some pages say I can just do an in place upgrade. I would much prefer to do the in place upgrade. Some pages also say I need to first uninstall any fix packs, does this mean i need to first revert to 9.1.0.0 before I can upgrade to 9.2.0.0? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
