    what you want is an aix migration (5.3 to 6.1). you need aix 6.1 media for this.

    if you have a software subscription you can download the aix 6.1 iso images (customer with a contract only) and then optionally get additionall fixes (like technology level updates or service packs) from the "fix central" website (publicly available).

    if you have no software subscription or are unsure, talk to your ibm contact person.
