Null Pointer, you may be missing some config files.
I think the best option for you is to reinstall update manager (with a different version), or just open a ticket with SAG.

Error does not provided any useful information to investigate. Since it is 9.6 feel free to contact SAG global support.

Even i re installed the update manager but faced the same problem.
