The Unix Systems Administrator maintains and supports the Production and Non-Production (Dev/QA) UNIX-based UNIX middleware environments, inclusive of the software, and in some cases hardware systems. In addition, the position represents the Midrange Technical Services team on enterprise IT initiatives as assigned, assesses technical requirements, and provides recommendations to the Project Manager.
The UNIX Middleware support team provides 24x7 365/days support
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
*To continually achieve the highest levels of service availability for the business, the incumbent provides both on- and off-hours maintenance and support for the UNIX-based middleware software services. Assists the Development and Application Management teams to ensure that the UNIX middleware services are configured according to application and/or vendor requirements and recommendations.
*Represents MTS team on enterprise IT initiatives as assigned and provides recommendations to MTS Project Manager. Responsible for configuring Development, Quality, and/or Production middleware products and service configurations in accordance with Architecture, Solutions/Development, Application Management, and/or external Vendor requirements. Where appropriate, provides implementation and configuration options and presents the options in the form of a recommendation to the Project Manager.
*Researches new middleware technologies to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the MTS middleware product and service offerings. This research is presented to the Project Manager, who determines if the technology solution, with associated Capital, Maintenance, and Professional Services costs would benefit the organization. The incumbent would work with the Project Manager to present the solution to Senior IT Management, where appropriate. If approved, assists with the implementation of the solution.
QUALIFICATIONS
*College degree with a minimum of five years technical experience with UNIX server environments highly preferred
*IBM WebSphere Certified Administrator, Version 6 preferred
*IBM WebSphere Portal Certified, Version 6 preferred
*Experience with UNIX server environments, including experience with Solaris and AIX
*Minimum of 3 years production work experience providing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and administration for IBM WebSphere Application server
*Minimum of 3 years production work experience providing installation and administration for IBM WebSphere Portal Server product(s)
*Adaptable and able to learn quickly
*Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
*Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
*Strong verbal and written communication skills
*Strong interpersonal skills
*Must be able to effectively work with people in the team, other IT departments and/or outside of the enterprise
*Demonstrates leadership ability
*Strong organization skills
*Ability to be on-call to provide off hours support
