  • 1.  UCD and z/VM agent

    Posted 06/09/20 06:36 PM
    Hi,
I've not seen any agent for UCD running on z/VM.
We use UCD a lot and we have some requirements to issue CMS and CP commands on z/VM as part of some workflows.

    Cheers

Have you investigated using the vmcp command or device driver?

    Hi,

vmcp is Linux package . the z/VM lpar i'm working on is hosting only z/OS guests.
We have UCD server already that drives jobs/commands on z/OS lpars (native/guests). I need a tool that communicates to z/VM directly.

    Cheers

    Hi,

Thanks, but that means I need at least one z/OS guest UP to target z/VM.  I'd rather drive all my commands from z/VM directly, to be able to stop/start my z/OS guests .

    Cheers

    Regis:

Ah, so you are looking at a way to issue commands to z/OS from z/VM (probably a REXX EXEC on CMS?).

One option might be to use the CP VINPUT command which talks to the emulated system console on the guest using service processor simulation. As long as z/OS is setup to accept input from the system console this should work. From a CMS user setup as a secondary user to the z/OS guest you could issue the VINPUT to the guest. I have never tried this, but it should work.

    Hi,

Not exactly.  I want to issue commands from a remote system to a z/VM system.

The perfect tool would be a UCD agent running directly on z/VM .

    Hi,

we use UCD already for z/OS but I'm not aware of the protocol. It's an IBM product .
