The key issue is a text item object in the type tree must now be changed to a sequence group containing another group and a text item. Data of interest will now be in the child text item of the parent sequence group (think unattributed XML element now needs attributes). Obviously, the existing references in the map rules will no longer be correct when using the new tree.

I know of no way in Mercator 6.5 to automagically update the map rules to properly refer to the changed object so I'm considering exporting the map to XML, search & replacing to modify the map rule references, and finally reimporting the modified XML back into map designer.

Anyone know of an easier, less error prone way?

    thanks...
