If my backups are done in TSM and I do a full db backup within full recovery model, outside of TSM, wouldn't it break the backup chain? If so, would TSM see that and run its own to correct the break? My databases are all Oracle or MSSQL.

If you are running a MSSQL database log backups using TSM and in some moment you run a full ou log backup outside TSM, TDP will not perform a full backup automatically.

If you need run SQL backup with two different tools, I recomend you run only full backups with recovery model=simple.
