    Hi,

last year, my company buy a TS2900 (replacement of a TS2660) and my company use VEEAM 12 as software solution for backup.

For the implementation of the backup solution, I would like to use all availble slot and decide myslef what tape must go to the drive for the backup.

But with the I/O station functionnality, it's seems that's not work like I want.

So how to correctly use the TS2900 with veeam for use the tape on the drive only

    Hi Stephane,

it is possible to disable the I/O station.

The configuration of active slots in connection with the deactivation of the I/O station is described here

IBM TS2900 Tape Autoloader: Setup, Operator, and Service Guide Machine Type 3572

    Hi Stephane,

the TS2900 library supports the Random and Sequential operation modes.

Random is the default and is used by applications which support the SCSI media changer device.

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ts2900tapeautoloader?topic=functions-random-sequential-logical-library-modes

If you want to control which cartridge will get loaded into a drive upfront a backup operation, then either

    a) you have to load the desired cartridge to the library and then tell the application to start the backup, or

    b) you have to instruct the library which cartridge to use for the backupu operation

AFAIK you can use Media Pools within Veeam to control which backup / type of data will get stored on which cartridge(s).

    OK.. thank you.

I 'm thinking to use barcode label, maybe it will be better to use it, VEEAM can read that barcode and the TS2900 too.

Visually, on the tape web user interface I will be able to see what that are on what slot; loading the magazine with 3 tapes on slot 3-5-7 and move to drive when needed (monthly) and not make mistake about what tape are on what slot.  Veeam will tell me what barrecode are used for what backup (monthly backup)
