  • 1.  Trendline on Chart object not visible in Excel - any option/workaround?

    Posted Thu March 14, 2024 04:34 PM

Hi everyone, I'm using Cognos v11.2.4 and working on a report that contains various charts. From what I've been able to gather after researching this, it looks like:

    • Trendlines are only available if you use the legacy Charts object (not yet available in v11 visualizations), and
    • You can only see those trendlines when viewing as HTML or PDF (trendlines will not display when viewing as Excel).

Is this correct? If so, is there any option or workaround I can use to be able to see a trendline on a bar chart when running/viewing as Excel? Thanks for any/all guidance.

As of my own experience, when limits with Excel are reached, I would prefer to work with CAFE or Cognos for MS Office.

As far as I uderstand your issue I would calculate the ttrend and add it as a complementary line to the chart. Good luck.

Thanks German! What is CAFE? Unfortunately, I don't have access to Cognos for MS Office. I will try your suggestion for calculating the trend and adding it as another line to the chart.

    Hi Melody,

CAFE is an old name. The plugin now is named PAfE (Planning Analytics for Excel) but ist also capable of connecting with Cognos Analytics. Depending on your Cognos version and license you may or may not entitled to use the plugin. Keep in mind that this is not the Cognos Analytics plugin for MS Office. This is a bit confusing but both plugins have different functionalities:

    • PAfE is more or less an analysing module which has similar capabilities like Analysis Studio used to had
    • CA for Office is a plugin that allows you to used pre-defined report content in Excel

    Hi Melody,

There are some documented limitations when you produce reports in Microsoft Excel format

Thanks Patrick! Yes, I was aware of that page, but I didn't see anything regarding trendlines. Also, I thought that page applies to v12 (or v11) and not the v8/v10 version that I believe the "Charts" object is based on. Let me know if I'm incorrect here, thanks.
