would appreciate yr comments on my understanding on the concurrent I/O filesystem creation in AIX:
user requirement: 500GB for db2 extraction

    1. create 5 LUN of 100GB from SAN storage

    2. create one vg on one of the hdisk, and then extend the 4 disk to the vg
where to specify the concurrent IO?

    3. vi /etc/filesystems
    ensure the option:
    options = cio,rw

hope to hear from you. thank you

to stripe across the hdisks simply use
    mklv -e x ...
in your mklv command, which spreads the LP's over as much disks as available.

That's not striping. You create striped LV's using mklv -S

thanx for the hint - you are right.
I thought spreading lp over all my disks in a VG would have the same or similar effect.
Using the mklv -e x command for example for 10 LP'sa VG with 5 Disks would result in the following:
    Disk1 Disk2 Disk3 Disk4 Disk5
    lp1 lp2 lp3 lp4 lp5
    lp6 lp7 lp8 lp9 lp10

Isn't that some kind of striping?

    Cheers,

No, it's not striping. Also, I don't think AIX will do what you drew above, I think it will do this,

    Disk1 Disk2 Disk3 Disk4 Disk5
    lp1 lp3 lp5 lp7 lp9
    lp2 lp4 lp6 lp8 lp10

It's safer to only talk about striping with LVM when you're creating specific striped LV's using -S.

Striping creates a unit smaller than the PP (usually) and ensures writes go to all disks at the same time. Choice of stripe size is critical and based on the application in question.
