TM1 Web administration on PA versions 2.1.x

  • 1.  TM1 Web administration on PA versions 2.1.x

    Posted Mon November 25, 2024 10:41 AM

    Hi,

we are planning migration of PA (version 2.0.9.2) to the version 2.1.6. but application is available only in TM1 Web. TM1 Web is still supported with 2.1. but I'm interested how app will be maintained without Architect (which is not supported in PA 2.1.x) is there any other risk for this approach? Does anyone have experience with use any of PA 2.1.x version and TM1 Web only?

App migration from TM1 Web to PAW is planned later due to the fact that it is very time consuming.

    Thank you in advance.

    Br,

    Ivana

    Hi Ivana,

have you looked at PAfE? It's the "successor" of Perspectives and is supported in 2.1.x

    Regards

    Hi Dominik,

yes, we already use PAfE but in TM1 Web, not in PAW.

    Hi,

you can use PAfE to maintain, create, update, ... your sheets. You can then display them in TM1Web or PAW.

    Hi Dominik,

thank you for the advise. You are right, web sheets can be maintained via PAfE, but is there an option for add cube views in TM1 Web without Architect (not as report on web sheet, but direct cube view, an example is provided in picture below in yellow color)?

    Thank you in advance,

    Br,

    Ivana

    Hi Ivana,

We are also adding functionality in the Workspace modeling workbench to manage Websheet and links to views.  Websheet management in Workspace is planned for the February 2025 release.  Here is a preview of the upcoming feature.

This feature will allow you to do the following:

    • Create public and private files
    • Rename websheets, folders, shortcuts
    • Make objects public or private
    • Update application security (access the }ApplicationsSecurity cubes)
    • Create new shortcuts (public or private) to the native views that can be displayed in TM1Web

    Hi Stuart King,

When updating the web to version 2.1.3 or higher, I found that I couldn't paste data into a large number of rows in the web table.

    What is the situation?

    Hi

We reported an issue with pasting into TM1 web for all 2.1 versions up to 2.1.6. This was resolved as a fix in the 2.1.7 release. I suggest you use that version for your upgrade instead of 2.1.6.

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for your answer, but I downloaded BA-PASSL-2.1.7 and still have this issue after installation. Have you used 2.1.7 and solved this problem?

    BA-PASSL-2.1.7 downloaded file: tm1web-11.0.100-24120513-2.1.7-winx64h_bundle.zip

    Hi Stuart,

is there any update related to Workspace functionalities:

    • Create new shortcuts (public or private) to the native views that can be displayed in TM1Web
    • Update application security (access the }ApplicationsSecurity cubes)?

Would this functionality be available in next PAW version 2.1.8.? When in expected release of this version? I follow IBM official pages and there is no any info.

    Thank you in advance.

    Br,

    Ivana

    Hi Ivana,

Creating shortcuts to native (non MDX) views in the Workspace Modeling Workbench should show up in the 2.0.102/2.1.9 release, later this month.  This will allow you to create shortcuts to native views that can be accessed through the Applications folder in TM1Web.

We are already working on expanding this feature to support shortcuts to all TM1 object types in the Applications folder.  Note that TM1Web will only display native view shortcuts.  These shortcuts can be used to organize access to objects in both Workbenches and PAW books.  We will also rename the Applications folder in PAW back to Applications.  The folder is currently named Websheets.

    1)
"we are planning migration of PA (version 2.0.9.2) to the version 2.1.6"

To that end you must perform a full uninstall of all PA 2.0.9.x software currently installed on the machine or the installer of the PA 2.1.x software will faile with an error message:
"All IBM Planning Analytics Services must be stopped and Planning Analytics Local 2.0 must be uninstalled before installation of Planning Analytics Local 2.1"

But the new PA 2.1.x installation will need customized configuration files and folders from the old PA 2.0.9.x installation like the folders bin/ssl, bin64/ssl and configuration. Thus you should make a full backup of the old PA 2.0.9.x installation.

    See the product documentation

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.1.0?topic=configuration-upgrading-planning-analytics-local-21
Upgrading to Planning Analytics Local 2.1

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.1.0?topic=upal2-upgrading-tm1-server-from-planning-analytics-local-20-21
Upgrading TM1 Server from IBM Planning Analytics Local 2.0 to 2.1

When upgrading Windows installations of Planning Analytics Local 2.0 to version 2.1, you must uninstall the previous version. Planning Analytics Local 2.1 cannot be installed directly over an existing Planning Analytics Local 2.0 installation directory.

Planning Analytics Local 2.1 cannot be installed on the same Windows system as Planning Analytics Local 2.0. The Planning Analytics Local 2.1 installer for Windows prevents the installation from completing if a Planning Analytics Local 2.0 installation is detected.

    2)
"without Architect (which is not supported in PA 2.1.x)"

After you upgraded from PA 2.0.9.x to PA 2.1.x, after you installed the PA 2.1.x software, you may install TM1 Architect using the Client Installer of PA 2.0.9.20:
When the installer of the TM1 Client 2.0.9.20 prompts for
    - an installation directory, do not name the one used by the PA 2.1.x software ( by default C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64 ), but use a new one ( for instance C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1client_64 ).
    - the components to be installed, select Architect and the APIs.
    - a tile name enter a new unique name like "TM1 Client - 64".

Yes, the combination of TM1 Server from PA 2.1.x and TM1 Architect of PA 2.0.9.x is not supported by IBM, but it works.

    There is a caveat:
As mentioned the PA 2.1.x installer checks for a previous PA 2.0.9.x installation. If it finds one, it errors out.
When you are running a combination of TM1 Server from PA 2.1.x and TM1 Architect of PA 2.0.9.x on the same machine, and you want to upgrade to a newer version of PA 2.1.x, first you must uninstall the PA 2.0.9.x software. After the PA 2.1.x upgrade took place, you have to re-install the PA 2.0.9.x software.  Said uninstall & re-install should take 10 minutes.
