Thank you Bernd. Steps for Architect installation are very useful.

1)
"we are planning migration of PA (version 2.0.9.2) to the version 2.1.6"
To that end you must perform a full uninstall of all PA 2.0.9.x software currently installed on the machine or the installer of the PA 2.1.x software will faile with an error message:
"All IBM Planning Analytics Services must be stopped and Planning Analytics Local 2.0 must be uninstalled before installation of Planning Analytics Local 2.1"
But the new PA 2.1.x installation will need customized configuration files and folders from the old PA 2.0.9.x installation like the folders bin/ssl, bin64/ssl and configuration. Thus you should make a full backup of the old PA 2.0.9.x installation.
See the product documentation

Upgrading to Planning Analytics Local 2.1
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.1.0?topic=upal2-upgrading-tm1-server-from-planning-analytics-local-20-21
Upgrading TM1 Server from IBM Planning Analytics Local 2.0 to 2.1
When upgrading Windows installations of Planning Analytics Local 2.0 to version 2.1, you must uninstall the previous version. Planning Analytics Local 2.1 cannot be installed directly over an existing Planning Analytics Local 2.0 installation directory.
Planning Analytics Local 2.1 cannot be installed on the same Windows system as Planning Analytics Local 2.0. The Planning Analytics Local 2.1 installer for Windows prevents the installation from completing if a Planning Analytics Local 2.0 installation is detected.
2)
"without Architect (which is not supported in PA 2.1.x)"
After you upgraded from PA 2.0.9.x to PA 2.1.x, after you installed the PA 2.1.x software, you may install TM1 Architect using the Client Installer of PA 2.0.9.20:
When the installer of the TM1 Client 2.0.9.20 prompts for
- an installation directory, do not name the one used by the PA 2.1.x software ( by default C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64 ), but use a new one ( for instance C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1client_64 ).
- the components to be installed, select Architect and the APIs.
- a tile name enter a new unique name like "TM1 Client - 64".
Yes, the combination of TM1 Server from PA 2.1.x and TM1 Architect of PA 2.0.9.x is not supported by IBM, but it works.
There is a caveat:
As mentioned the PA 2.1.x installer checks for a previous PA 2.0.9.x installation. If it finds one, it errors out.
When you are running a combination of TM1 Server from PA 2.1.x and TM1 Architect of PA 2.0.9.x on the same machine, and you want to upgrade to a newer version of PA 2.1.x, first you must uninstall the PA 2.0.9.x software. After the PA 2.1.x upgrade took place, you have to re-install the PA 2.0.9.x software. Said uninstall & re-install should take 10 minutes.

Subject: TM1 Web administration on PA versions 2.1.x
Hi,
we are planning migration of PA (version 2.0.9.2) to the version 2.1.6. but application is available only in TM1 Web. TM1 Web is still supported with 2.1. but I'm interested how app will be maintained without Architect (which is not supported in PA 2.1.x) is there any other risk for this approach? Does anyone have experience with use any of PA 2.1.x version and TM1 Web only?
App migration from TM1 Web to PAW is planned later due to the fact that it is very time consuming.
Thank you in advance.
Br,
Ivana
