TM1 TRANSACTION LOG IN PAW

  • 1.  TM1 TRANSACTION LOG IN PAW

    Posted Fri November 29, 2019 09:12 AM

    Hi all

One of the last administration feature missing in PAW is the ability to browse the transaction log with all the required filters.

Is it planned for a future version ?

    Hi Frederic,

I was able to locate this enhancement request regarding the functionality you requested.  IBM Aha!: https://ibm-data-and-ai.ideas.aha.io/ideas/PAOC-I-70

You would be able to upvote that topic and provide feedback therein.

    Hi Christopher

Frederic is asking about functionality that has been in Architect for years. This should not be viewed as an enhancement request. Surely IBM are intending to provide all of Architect's functionality in the Admin side of PAW?

You would think, but at the speed they are moving I wouldn't count on it anytime soon.

    Hi Paul Simon,
Offering Management does monitor the community as such I will let them response back to how OM plans to handle auditing with PAW.

    Hi Paul

I am not personally that concerned about being able to filter the transaction log in PAW, so long as we can still do that in Architect. It is something we tend to do once a quarter, usually in response to a query from a user about who changed a figure.

My number one feature request remains being able to link parameters on an Action Button for a TI process to other selections in the book.

However, I just wanted to make the general point that I have met with fairly senior people at IBM recently and the stated plan is to replace Architect with the Admin side of PAW. If that is the case then I would not expect IBM to be asking the user community to raise enhancement requests for features that are missing from PAW which are currently part of Architect. It should be a given that these features will be introduced in the relatively near future.

    Regards

    Hi Paul,

You're right that the enhancement request for transaction log query in Planning Analytics Workspace is unnecessary.  This feature is going to be added regardless of any enhancement request.  Same with the Audit log query capability.

I expect that at some point in the future the TM1 Server will be REST API only.  This means older client tools such as Architect and Performance Modeler will need to be replaced.  Planning Analytics Workspace is the planned front end for both Modeling and Administration.  We acknowledge that there is still some work to do before we can remove Architect from Planning Analytics.  Although the Planning Analytics team is eager to close modeling and admin gaps between Architect and Planning Analytics Workspace, these gaps are not completely driving our roadmap.  Architect is NOT planned to be removed in any upcoming Planning Analytics 2.0.x release.  We are also adding new value in Workspace and Planning Analytics for MS Excel.  Ongoing development efforts include a modernization of the Workspace user interface and bringing in the advanced dashboard capabilities from Cognos Analytics to the Workspace books.  This work will take us into 2020.  Once complete, we will focus on some of the missing modeling and admin capabilities from Architect.

    Hi Fred,

A log query/viewer/extract feature is on the roadmap for Planning Analytics Administration in 2020.  We will likely start with Transaction logging and then follow up with support for the audit log and message (tm1server.log).  No ETA at this point, but I would expect sometime in the 2nd half of 2020.

The Planning Analytics team acknowledges our customers have a number of dependencies on Architect.  We are working to remove these final dependencies by enhancing the modeling and administration capabilities in Workspace.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

It will be a very good thing, but I hope that it will work better than with Architec where it's dangerous to try to find an element in big log files.

You can get an idea of what it may be like by using the REST API endpoints for the logs. It is easy to explore via TM1Py

    Hi!

Any updates or news regarding the transaction log in PAW?

A very useful feature would be if users could drill their own transactions or changes from a single cell.

If you are considering paid options, using the SPACE sidebar, admin users can view all Message, Transaction, and Audit logs directly in PAW. Regular users will only see their own log records.

You can filter the transaction logs by period range user, cube and dimension elements (or substrings):
