You can directly upgrade to TL4. No need to first install the TLs in between.

You are currently, running AIX 6.1 TL0 but only Service pack 1

• it is the service pack that worries me most!
• You are missing something like 10 service packs.

If you are jumping to AIX 6.1 TL4 then you should also go for SP8 that came out a couple of months ago.

New TL's will give you additional features but the service packs remove the bugs too and should be a no brainer regular update and come out every six months - roughly.

Given you are upgrading now, I would go straight to AIX 6.1 TL6 SP3.
Then take the SP's as the come out.
