I don't have any way to actually test this, but from a couple of google searches (ims database jdbc driver; vtam files jdbc), it looks like JDBC could be a solution for you. For IMS, it looks like there is a JDBC driver available from your mainframe. For VSAM files, it looks like there are at least a few additional steps required. In either case, you would then use the JDBC Connector in Directory Integrator to connect and access data.
