  • 1.  Taking a long time to complete a task

    Hello,

    I'm adding a portable software instance for z/OS 3.1 .  I finished downloading the order from server (step 3 of 4) and when i clicked on Next, i got this message:

    Retrieving the portable software instance contents from "/u/smpe/zos31" on system "SYS1". This request might take several minutes to complete.

    This is on a sandbox system so slow is a given but it's been more than an hour - i think that's more than several minutes :)

    This is one of those cases where I wish I knew what z/OSMF is doing behind the scene. 

    Where do i find if there's an error?  Or do i just continue to wait?

    Behind the scenes z/OSMF is reading all the archive files to calculate hash values and compare to known values.  So for z/OS 3.1 which is large, its doing lots and lots of I/O.  I suggest you continue to wait.  If an error were to occur, I'd look in the z/OSMF server log, usually in /global/zosmf/data/logs/IZUG0.log (remember its in ASCII, so view it appropriately), or in the server's job log on the spool.

    Do you have a ZIIP in your CEC?  z/OSMF can run very slowly without one...  Particularly if you have the smallest z15 / z16

    The CEC has ZIIP engines but none of them are assigned to the sandbox systems.

    The step completed in 2 hours.
