  • 1.  Strange replication issue when trying to mirror volumes

    Hi,

I have a strange issue when trying to mirror from a FS7200 to a FS7300.

The source volumes where created manually and the target volumes by IBMi team using powerVC.

The source and target are identical in size so it should work, I have discovered when looking at the vdisk's there's a function flag set to master on the powerVC created targets. The target volumes are NOT in any relationships.

    • master, which indicates a master volume in a remote copy relationship.

I have migrated lots of lpars and this is the first one to give trouble, the one thing i did notice on this particular target lpar the volume names have GM in them, are there any powerVC guru's that might know the difference between GM named and ones that dont. Examples below.

    source volume_name volume-******-IPG2--1-b985f0a9-25a7
    function

    target volume_name volume-******-GM-IPG1-1-61ee381c-07f7
    function master

    Many thanks in advance, Stuart

Got to the bottom of this. A PowerVC template for global mirror had been used so the new target volumes where in fact already in a relationship with new targets on another storage system.

I didn't see they where mirrored because it had not put them into a new consistency group and they where in the independent relationships.

    Cheers
