  • 1.  SPSS Statistic won't start after login with normal Windows User

    Posted Tue September 10, 2024 04:25 PM

Hello, so i just installed the SPSS Statistic Trial for a User of ours.

After logging in with the ibmid when logged in with a "normal" domain User nothing is happening. But when i log in with the same ibmid with my windows domain admin account, that i used to install spss statistics, the programm starts correctly. All on the same windows machine.

Are there some part in the User Profile that i have to transfer over? Or what is happening here?

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi @Pascal IT

Do your Standard Users have the appropriate privileges in the product installation path, in the user profile path(s), and in the Windows registry (under HKCU)?

With Subscription is seems sometimes users do not have permission to create the registry keys to store their login credentials

    Please see

Hi @David Dwyer thanks for your reply.

Our Standard User has full access rights to the user profile path. I gave it the full access to the program files path. I did via Remote registry Editor grant full access to the mentioned regkey for the User but still after all this SPSS Statistic won't start after signin in as a normal User. Thing is, i can see the credentials Key as its created in the registry. But it is completely empty. And then after like 30 seconds it disappears.

Is there any way to fix this? This would prevent us from buying the software.

    Hi @Pascal Ableitner,
The specific registry key in that Known Issue is really just a symptom.  To run SPSS Statistics Subscription the executing user needs access to everything under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\com\ibm\/S/P/S/S\/Statistics (including the ability to create, modify, delete that whole branch).

As this is a Windows AD User, does the user have access to  "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp"?  This is where Statistics writes temp files (unless you've redirected it in the UI under "Edit -> Options" and the "File Locations" tab).

Hey @David Dwyer so the issue for us is, that our standard Windows User is not allowed to execute regedit.exe and because of that the credentials can't be written and so the program won't start after authentification. So we had to allow the specific users who want to use SPSS to run regedit.exe, now the Program start without problem. Not the optimal solution so i hope this issue can be resolved in a future Update.
