I will explain the analysis now (in my best English):
My thesis is about the impact of the economic crisis of 2008 on social trust. With the dataset im using, I have to run two regressions. One with GDP growth as independent, and one with Unemployment as independent. In both regressions my dependent one is sociaal vertrouwen (social trust in dutch), moderation is religion, and control variables are: gezondheid, institutional vertrouwen, leeftijd (age) and opleidingsniveau (education in dutch).
Ive used wave 4,5 and 6 from the WVS to examine this. Wave 4 and 5 are data before the crisis, wave 6 is after crisis. Im supposed to run regressions and put in the increase/decrease of sociaal vertrouwen (and moderation and control variables), that is effected by the crisis. So thats the difference between wave 4+5 and wave 6. This difference has be put in both regressions.
One regression, like I said, is with the GDP growth variable. The second is with unemployment (for unemployment i used data from 2007 till 2010, so I have to put the difference of unemployment, caused by the crisis, in the regression as well.)
Furthermore, some countries are represented in all waves, some are only in 4 and 6, and some in 5 and 6. So, for some countries its necessary to get the mean value of wave 4 and 5. For instance, I want to measure the change in social trust (sociaal vertrouwen) for country Argentine, which is represented in all the waves. In wave 4 the social trust in Argentine (aggregated) is 0,15 and in wave 5 its 0,18; in wave 6 its 0,2. Therefore I need to take the mean of 0,15 and 0,18 = 0,15 +0,18/2 to measure argentines trust before crisis, to compare with after crisis.
And this is necessary for all countries that represent wave 4,5 and necessary for all the values. I might have to use the Mean. (point) function but im not sure. I hope you can help. And i hope you understand.
Kind regards
