  • 1.  SPSS Licensing - Authorization code does not work

    I have a newly purchased copy of SPSS, which, when I try to enter the authorization code included with my purchase, gives this message:

    I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, looking in the lservrc file, and contacting my company's tech support, and I cannot find the issue here. I need SPSS for my work, so I need this issue fixed ASAP.

    Hi. Please note this, from Technical Support:

    Due to privacy issues, SPSS Licensing requests which require exchange of confidential information such as IBM Customer Number, authorization code, email address, etc...  need to be handled through the SPSS Licensing support page:

    Use the blue button called "Open a case to get help with SPSS License issues" to open a case. Include all required information (e.g. authorization code, lock-code, product version, ...) so that we can immediately process your request.

    In March of 2023, that link was probably still good.  The key piece is that licensing issues for Graduate Pack or Student Version must go through the original vendor where the product was purchased.  Here is the direct link to the technote:  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/473051

    Looking at the original post by @Rachel Brown, it may be that Rachel simply needed to run the License Authorization Wizard as a local administrator.  Standard users will not have sufficient permissions to update the underlying configuration file(s).  Assuming all is correct with the authorization code (authorization code is current and valid for this version and this product), then I would look at running the LAW as an administrator.  If instead, there is something wrong with the authorization code - wrong time period, wrong product, wrong version - that is something to take up with the vendor where the software was purchased.  The vendor owns the license code.
