  • 1.  spss 29 being weird

    Posted Thu July 27, 2023 03:24 PM

    Hi everyone,

I bought SPSS (BM® SPSS® Statistics Premium GradPack 29 for Windows and Mac 12 months rental) in February and only started to use it recently. I found it very weird, lots of things on it changed, I cannot add new syntax, cannot find simple analysis functions such as reliability analysis, or other things like hierarchical regression. There's no help window, sometimes I have to force quit the program. And it's not easy to problem solve these things as I'm not a technical person. I hope there's a fast way to solve the problems but also couldn't find any answers online or any phone numbers I could call to solve these issues. Any suggestions?

    Hi @Cecilia Zhou

Let's see if we can get you up and running.  Some of the pieces to your description here certainly have me puzzled.

    • Let's begin with the basic information:  Are you on macOS or Windows? Which version of that OS?  Are you on Statistics 29.0 or 29.0.1.0?
    • Please check the actual media you have downloaded and installed .  If you truly have a license for the IBM SPSS Statistics 29.0.1 Graduate Pack, then see the Downloading IBM SPSS Statistics 29.0.1.0 link.  The macOS and Windows download links are at the bottom of the page and should work with your authorization code.  If instead, you have downloaded and installed the IBM SPSS Statistics Desktop Integrated Student Edition 29.0.1.0 , then that is in fact a limited edition and would explain the lack of features, like Syntax and Hierarchical Regression.  Still, you should be seeing simple menus like "Help".
    • There are many technotes, specifically for macOS, detailing the situation of "I lost my menus and toolbars".  This is usually a problem with user preferences and the solution lies in resetting these to the default.   Here is one for Windows.  I favor this one for macOS.
    • If the above resources don't resolve your issue, then I must turn you back to the place where you purchased your software.  Support for the Graduate Pack is provided by the vendor.  Likely you are having a problem with your licensing and license code.  When you contact them, it will help if you can provide them detailed information (information that REALLY should NOT be shared in this public forum) from this "Must Gather" technote.

    I hope this helps!
