  • 1.  Spammed by Lil Durk - Malware?

    Posted Mon August 22, 2022 08:59 AM
Just FYI - I received 6 emails from "Lil Durk via IBM Community" on August 22, 2022 between 1:05AM (ET) and 1:12AM (ET).

Apparently, the real Lil Durk is a rapper. One of the links is https://lildurk.com, which is not the rapper's website. Whois shows the website hosting company being in Reykjavik. They also have an IBM Community link to .../community/users/network/members/profile/myaccount/inbox. To my knowledge, I'm not a member of this group.

I've never been spammed from the IBM Community site like this, so I thought I'd pass it along. And no, I'm not clicking on the links.

Yes, I'm being spammed as well.
There's no "Signal this message" or "Mark as Spam" in Community email.

I'm afraid "security by obscurity" doesn't work anymore for IBM Community.

Thanks again for alerting us to this issue. Protecting our community from bad actors is a top priority to us, and while our teams do a lot of work in the background every day to ensure things go smoothly, sometimes new spam incidents pop up.

We wanted to share a quick update:

    • The user who originally sent these spam messages has been deactivated.
    • Since then, additional user profiles have been discovered that have been sending the same spam message. These are also in the process of being deactivated.
    • The affected recipients of these spam messages have been identified.
    • The spam messages will be removed from their inboxes shortly.
    • An analysis of what if any safeguards will need to be updated will follow.
    • In addition, we have temporarily suspended everyone's ability to send direct messages.
Reminder: If you received a suspicious direct message, please do not click on any of the links it may contain.

    Thank for your patience!
