Sizing hardware requirements for DataPower

    My customer has asked for a business case comparing cost of ownership of DataPower appliance vs Virtual DataPower. Is there a sizing tool or guideline to estimate hardware requirements for DataPower Gateway Virtual Edition? Thank you.

    The PVU cost of virtual does exceed physical so if you want to do a 1:1 replacement of all physical CPUs with virtual vCPUs the licenses will cost more.  Under assumption that there is NO resource over commit present in virtualization, the per core throughput is about same for physical and virtual.  The physical does have some specific optimizations to reduce latency that are not available on virtual so virtual has higher latency, amount depends on the workload and it is NOT extreme.
