i have been a cognos instructor since 2006, having worked for cognos, inc. and ibm along the way, and i have a real simple (and maybe stupid) question about something that i didn't notice until today. i'm preparing to teach a reporting fundamentals class usign v11.1 r1, and maybe i hadn't noticed this before because i'm paying closer attention to the lab instructions and not just doing it from memory and expertise.
so, the situation is this: create a simple list report using the blank template. add the list, add the data, run the report. add a block with text above the list (not in the header). I expected the block and text to appear only on the first page before the list, and not on the subsequent pages, as i thought it always had, but it seems to repeat at the top of every page. has it always done that? putting a data container above the list (like a crosstab) doesn't. it only appears on page 1, as expected. is there something special about a block or text?
i even just added a text item with no block, and it does the same. I added a table. it does the same. Was i not aware of this behavior, or was it added later on, and is there an option or property to turn it off?
instead of putting the block on the page, i usually illustrated using the page header, as i thought that was the repeating title area.
thanks.
