  • 1.  Silent / Auto Install of Apps on DO devices

    Wondering if anyone has overcome this. Enrolling DO into Android Enterprise, when Distributing apps or even a Bundle out to a group the apps never silently install. They show up in the Play Store (and MaaS360 App Catalog) so MaaS360 is definitely pushing them outwards in some way.

    I've checked the Install Automatically within each of the Apps in the Catalog too.

    Distributing out to individual devices has mixed results, more often than not the app will install but sometimes the app won't install. I am testing this on a well used / well enrolled device, so it has "history" in our MaaS360 instance! :)

    Feels like I'm missing something obvious, as all the docs, Matt's blog on AE apps all point to silent installs being the done thing.

    I have seen inconsistencies in both DO installs and Apple installs in terms of auto install for apps.  Given the large command queue coming down to the device, if there is any inconsistency in connectivity to the network, the installs will fail.  I would suggest trying both wireless and Wi-Fi connections to see if it makes a difference.

    Hi Mitch thanks for replying. I've tried this many times and for a brand new enrollment I never get the apps installed. They are pushed into the Play Store but never installed. So it's less inconsistent with new enrollments - simply never happens. Whereas with pushing to individual devices does have success more often than doesn't.

    Last night between 4pm and 5pm I enrolled 2 AE devices and 1 got the apps within minutes, the other took around 2 hours to deliver them down to it. Does feel mighty inconsistent.

    @Matt Shaver have you got any view on this inconsistency from what you've seen?

    Was the app that took a while to download by chance a newer addition to the catalog than the other 2 apps?  First time app approvals often have longer install times, but once the initial push comes down it should be as quick as the others you were seeing.
