We have a problem with a session that seemingly won’t expire. We are on IS 6.0.1. When wanting to end the session (connection to the IS through IE 5.5), the user must click “log-out”. The logging out consists of ending the session and closing the browser. However, IE always asks if it is OK to close the window. When answering ‘no’, the user cannot connect anymore, apparently because the session stays active, and remembers that the user is logged out. Restarting the workstation doesn’t help.

So the question are:

Could it be that Tomcat keeps the session active, even if the browser was closed? In web.xml, the session timeout was set to 10 min.
Where can I get more information about this, or how this could relate to my problem?
