Who is tracking server utilization in Apptio?  We are loading utilization data for in house servers and people are questioning the % that is being captured.  We are loading a 30 day average (96 data points per day are averaged to get a daily utilization then we take those numbers for 30 days to create the monthly average that we load to Apptio).  We are loading monthly data in Apptio to draw attention to low utilization which we hope will drive the reduction of servers.  We have a capacity team that is using this data in another reporting tool to provide valuable insights but it's for a different audience.  The 30 day average for servers is around 10% which seems extremely low but that includes DR and other lower environment.

Is anyone adjusting the utilization numbers to account for nights and weekends?  Is there a benchmark anyone is using to make these numbers seem a little more realistic?

I'm just looking for some help because I'm getting swamped with questions and people are trying to add different parameters to explain the numbers.   I don't create the numbers but I'm displaying them in Apptio.

Just looking at our raw physical server data (not the VMs on top), that doesn't seem too far from what we have. If the argument is that you shouldn't include nights and weekends in your data sampling, then the parameters of the data collection should be made prior to the Apptio load (in my opinion). I could see some plausible points for limiting your data-point timeframes but I really think it's up to the Infrastructure team to make the case. 

Thanks Robert, that is my feeling as well.  If the infrastructure team wants to adjust the parameters then they need to make that call.  I'm still trying to define the TBM office and what falls under our area so trying to get people to own this type of decision can be tricky.
