I have created a web service to do some updates in a VSAM KSDS. There are 5 possible input fields but not all of them need to be sent.  What I saw is that when a field is not part of the message it shows up as spaces in the Cobol program.

But they can also send spaces as the value for a field if they want to blank out what was there.

Any thoughts on how to distinguish?
