We have begun working with the RTC Scrum template (we follow Scum methodology). The RTC Scrum auto scheduler doesn’t consider depends on/blocks links when scheduling the tasks. Our goal is to have one task dependent on another and for that to also show up in the planning schedule. What’s the best way to do this?

The block/depends link is not covered in the scrum plan functionality.

Therefore you are right there is no hint for any of these block scenarios.

What you can do - whit out heavy customization- is:
Change the plan view settings and add the depends relationship in the view.
Helps you to see the dependency.

Use instead the block feature in task and kanban-board.
Helps you to see there is a block, but only text info about the block possible, no relation hint.

lite Customization: Use a mixed formal/agile template and use the predecessor relation from the formal template. (there are some guides in the net how to setup  a combined formal /  agile template)

If non of all helps, write an enhancement request.

Alternatively you can also install and use the Timeboxplanning plugin we provide for RTC. With this you can easily visualize dependencies and blocks within a Project Area or over Project Area borders.

100% correct what Guido is writing.

Version 3.10.0 of the Timebox Planning / SAFe Dependency Board Widget - which is coming soon - does not only support "dragging of dependencies"at your fingertips but is also able to merge queries from several PAs into one Timebox Planning View
