  • 1.  Samba issue on aix

    Posted 01/28/26 06:07 AM

    Hi All,

    I have an AIX server running AIX 7.2 TL05 SP04 (7200-05-04-2220) configured as a Samba server. Windows clients access the shares, and users/groups are managed via Active Directory. Samba version is 4.21.7

    Issue is,

    A user who belongs to the Samba share's group as a secondary group is unable to access the share. Access works only after changing the user's primary group to the group defined in the Samba configuration.

    Samba Share Configuration is as follows,

    [share1]
        comment = This is the share1
        path = /data/share1
        writeable = yes
        oplocks = no
        level2 oplocks = no
        valid users = @TNET\grp2
        create mask = 0664

    User Details are as follows,

    uid=1234(heshan) gid=2345(grp1) groups=3456(grp2)

    Primary group: grp1

    Secondary group: grp2

    Directory Permissions are as follows,

    drwxrwx--- 28 user1 grp2 4096 Jan 21 17:09 /data/share1

    I can't understand what causes this issue. Could anyone please help on this..?

    Thanks,

    Heshan Tissera
