    Password encryption

    When password encryption is disabled in Samba, authentication is done by AIX. Samba authenticates only when password encryption is enabled.

    Add the following in smb.conf: global
    password encryption = no
    Create a user in AIX that does not exist in Samba. If you connect a drive in the Windows client, using this user you find that AIX authenticates the user.

    the above step doesn't work ...samba is complaining 'password encryption' is wrong syntax!!!
