I strongly suggest you use the IBM i Community for this question.
If you want to print labels you might want to look at this product (I get NO money, swag, etc from them): https://tlashford.com/barcode400/
And, yes, if you roll your own then adjusting for margins and customizing for various forms of output is a real situation. One of the reasons we stopped all direct faxing.
Again, try the IBM i Community for more. BTW, it's been called "IBM i" longer than it was called AS400. And IBM i 6.1 has long been out of support but I don't think TL Ashford lets that faze them.

Subject: RPG Printing, with Bar codes and PDF
Good day,
background: using RPG/RPGLE on and AS400 running V6R1M0.
Recently requested to print labels, to include a bar code. Possibly as a PDF file.
I know that with a printer file, I am able to create the labels, including start and stop positions and (i am hoping) the new BARCODE printer code).
I also know that using OVERPRTF I can create a PDF.
my question is, if i were to transmit this PDF file, to another printer, I presume that that printer may not translate the start stop positions as we defined them.
am i wrong here?
Thanks in advance for any help.
