From my perspective, it is definitely time to engage with data modules and gradually transition models from the Framework Manager to data modules. I will create a post next days on www.cognoise.de listing the features missing from the Framework Manager when I have the opportunity. Data modules in version 12 offer much more than the Framework Manager. Here are a few points that come to mind:
- Multilingual Support and Alias Tables: Data modules support multilingual capabilities and alias tables.
- Custom Sorting: Allows for custom sorting, ensuring month names like January, February, March always appear in the correct order, or pre-sorting columns in relational models such as the year column (2023, 2024, 2025).
- Powerful Macro Languages: Enables better representation of parameter maps than in the Framework Manager.
- Excel Table Integration: In the new version, even uploaded Excel tables can be integrated as database tables in DB2.
- Categorization of Columns: Columns can be categorized into geographical or temporal information, allowing the assistant to work more effectively.
- Geographical and Calendar Integration: Facilitates the creation of relative time categories with a single click.
- Combining Data Modules: It's easy to use a master data module within other data modules.
- Integration of Data Sets: The integration of data sets and much more.
The list is probably much longer, and I will make a comprehensive overview.
Additionally, we have a modern, web-based interface (no client installation required) where testing in reports and dashboards is possible without publishing. :-)
