  • 1.  Restore of file system possible to another client

    Hi All,
    I am trying to figure out is there a way to restore specific file or complete directory to alternate client.
    Exp- client A backed up files , abcd.txt and /home/Prem/database

    Now I wanted to restore into Client B, and additionally on cross platform also it is possible,
     From UNiX to Windows or vice versa. Awaiting for any quick response.

    TSM Server and client version is 5.3.4 and 6.3.4.

    Hi,

    TSM does not allow cross OS restore.  Meta data does not match.

    You can restore unix to a unix host and share a cifs/smd directory as a workaround.

    What would be the stanza if I am restoring in same platform but alternate client for below file and folder and their subdirectory.

    File name- abcd.txt
    Folder name-opt/tivoli

    Prem,

    Yes you can do that. You need grant authority to another client to gain access. Both have to same client running. 

    Other option is Go client B and change the dsm.opt and change the nodename to Client A and run restore to different location.

    From past experience you need to be very careful what files you are restoring/mixing with another client application and all depend on the application used and being restored, hence the software writers, do produce deferent versions compatible with particular OS Linux, AIX, Oracle/Solaris, Windows etc.… , in this case you are taking chance unless this file is unique, you may want to sift through the application files and ensure that the files you are recovering is universal
