    OK, error message seems pretty straight forward. But ...

    Several different reports (not all reports) just started getting this exact error: "Report Error: XQE-DAT-0005 Cannot convert the string value '-50000' to data type smallint: Value out of range. Value:"-50000" Radix:10". They were all scheduled in a "waiting" status but when we looked at history we could see that they had previously failed. We have restarted the server. We are using DQM/jdbc data source. Cognos 11.0.13.

    Made a copy of the failing report. Removed every filter, list, header, summary - basically a blank report. Then added a random 2 character field and still got the error. Created from scratch an exact duplicate report and it did not fail. (I was on a screen share that would not allow copy and paste so could not copy the report definition to create the new report). The client later told me that if she ran it as PDF that it did not fail.

    Any ideas?

    Well, there was a filter that I did not see that used an in_range(). Once the in_range() was removed the report worked. I was in a screen share that did not allow copy and paste and had an annoying delay … that is the excuse that I am using as to why I did not find the filter earlier.​ :-)

    Is there a known issue with in_range()? we use 11.0.13 and SQL Server as a backend.

    Hi Brenda,
    Could you show me the whole filter expression ?
    I'm not aware of any issue with the in_range operator, but I will have a look.
