Luis,
I would strongly advise against using adhoc device names or any
non-alphanumeric characters with rendev and disks.
Renaming hdisk1 to hdisk999 is OK, but This_IS-^Not===a!!diskname.
Thanks.

Sorry experts...
The problem was resolved.
It was due a bug with rendev command ... extra blind characters were added to new name, so AIX couldn't handle it.
# rendev -l hdisk9 -n Data02_Esss
Thanks

Subject: rendev ends in a problem with the devices
Hi experts..
Recently I used rendev command for rename some hdisks for another ones.
After that, the devices become inaccessible. The command drop me the following message:
# rendev -l hdisk9 -n Data02_E
Method error (/etc/method/define)
0514-040 Error initializing a device into the kernel
# lsdev -Cc disk
Data02_E Defined C5-T1-01 EMC Symmetrix FCP MPIO VG3R
hdisk5 Available C5-T1-01 EMC Symmetrix FCP MPIO VG3R
Other EMC disks with LVM Volume Groups structures work OK coming from the same vFC paths.
It was just after issued the rendev when everything goes wrong..
I get noticed that /dev/files for those devices were deleted.
#cfgmgr
Method error (/etc/methods/cfgscsidisk -l Data02_E ):
0514-040 Error initializing a device into the kernel.
It is not possible to do anything with those new devices.
#rmdev -dl Data02_E
rmdev: 0514-519 The following device was not found in the customized
device configuration database:
name = 'Data02_E'
Any comment or troubleshooting to try ?
PD. AIX is 7.2.3.3
