  • 1.  Removal of IEC message from DFP program's JESMSGLG.

In z/OS 2.5, running IEBCOPY, if the output dataset is too small, the job will end with cc08 and an IEC032I E37-04 message will appear in the JESMSGLG telling you that your output dataset is too small. The same type of message will appear in SYSPRINT DD, an IGW01001T telling you're an E37-00000004 happened.

In z/OS 3.1, running the same job, if the output dataset is too small, the job will end with cc08 without any other message in the JESMSGLG. In SYSPRINT DD, an IGW01177T Out of space condition message with a reason code of X'00000D37' will show up.

Do you like the new format? I like to hear what people think about this.

I don't. In z/OS 2.5, the necessary information is on the first page when I look at the output. In z/OS 3.1, I need to skip/page down to the DD SYSPRINT to see the same information. There seems to be an effort on SMS's part to suppress other messages and only show IGW messages. As an example, IDCAMS suppress ICH408I message and issue an IDC message saying the ID don't have authority to do a rename.

    Hi Michael,

I am the IDCAMS Lead Developer. We have made no changes to IDCAMS to suppress ICH408I messages. The ICH408I should be in your joblog.  As for the IEC032I E37-04 message, you should contact DFSMS service to help you. IBM z/OS does not change messages without first issuing and Interface Change Notification to our Independent Software Vendors and clients. You may also ask them about the ICH408I message if you do not agree with me.

    Regards,

    Stephen Branch
