Open and analyze all your type trees and save, then re-compile the maps. From what I recall, that’s really about it. There must be some documentation for upgrading.

recompile the maps using mcompile provided with the tool.
msl can be directly copied from the server. No need of recompiling.
You may face some problems with Email adapter and some WTX functions initially.

Beware that any files saved on 8.1 will not open in 6.7. Specifically we faced the following problems during our upgrade:

1. On 6.7 variable delimiters are acceptable even if the FIND option is NO. But on 8.1 the FIND option should be YES to accept variable delimiters. (which makes sense).

2. On 6.7 you can have a functional map where the group level of the passed arguement is not same as the one actually accessed by the functional map input card. In case of 8.1 this will give compile errors.

3. Analyse more w.r.t run time memory management on your platform. I am not sure but 8.1 runtime memory management is different from 6.7
