Recommended Allocation Unit Size and File System for DB2 Version11.5.8 on Windows

  • 1.  Recommended Allocation Unit Size and File System for DB2 Version11.5.8 on Windows

I am configuring drives for a DB211..5.8 database on a Windows-based Azure IaaS environment and would like guidance on the following:

    1. Allocation Unit Size (Cluster Size):

      • I am planning to format the drives for DB2 as follows:
        • Data Files Drive (F:): Dedicated to storing DB2 data files.
        • Log Files Drive (G:): Dedicated to storing transaction logs.
      • Based on general best practices, I am considering using a 64KB allocation unit size. Could you please confirm if this is recommended for DB2, or suggest an optimal allocation unit size?
    2. File System:

      • Should we use NTFS or FAT for these drives?

If there are any IBM resources or documentation addressing these questions, kindly share the reference.
