Process Data Files Utility: How to configure syntax files and datasets

  • 1.  Process Data Files Utility: How to configure syntax files and datasets

    Hi all,
I'm running SPSS 28 and I have slowly graduated from separate syntax files to a single syntax files calling child files. I would like to future proof my setup though and think the "Process Data Files" utility will be best suited. Production Facility may also be applicable but at the moment I think the real issue is with my syntax files and datasets

Each syntax file is set to create a new output file (hard coded path) and export it to word or excel at the end (another hard coded path)

    1. How do I configure a syntax file to not require a hardcoded path but instead to take the lead from the Process Data Files or Production Facility tool for the location to store the output?
      1. I tried specifying the directory for output data files but a single data output file is created instead of multiple word or excel files
      2. I tried specifying the directory for output viewer files but the files were not created there in the expected format.
    2. The process files utility doesn't seem to work when specifying the data files using file wildcard unless I have the dataset files already open. Is that expected ?

    Thanks
    Michael
