    Hello Chrit,

    umlaut characters are avaiable in ISO-8859-1 as well as in UTF-8.

    In your case it seems that an invalid XML document is produced. Could you describe your environment in more detail (i.e. which software is used and how is the XML document created/moved around) ? Do you have a sample of such an XML document ?
