I have a problem with printer configured in AIX. When we give large amount of print, then the printer status is showing as "DOWN". We are not having this issue for smaller print jobs.

Any ideas, please share. Most of the time, we are having this issue in ZEBRA model printers

What type of printer is the Zebra and the others? Are they similar to an HP4000 or what type of printer are they?

What printer driver did you set it up with? Are you using one for AIX? Or which ones have you tried?

    Thanks!!

What do you mean you used the "AIX one"? Does that mean an AIX Zebra driver or the HP4000 or what driver exactly?

Did you set it up with HPjetdirect or no? Did you use the PCL parameter for your queue type? And you said "No" to the boot question?

I am not sure about the PCL parameter. can you tell me how to check whether the PCL paramenter is set on these...

    Some outputs from my server

Piner name & queue name: INGOHW01

    /etc/qconfig entry for this printer.

Did you set any of the qconfigs yourself when you initially set up the printer or do you just let the HP4000 defaults get set?

You would have set the queue type(PCL) initially. Did you set this up or did someone else? I don't think you can go back and look at it or change it either. You would have to know which one you set it to initially.

Here's the screenshot. It comes after you tell AIX which driver to use. In this case I told it the HP driver. You put the Queue name for type PCL & 9100 for the port. It does matter which type you choose.
    Description Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 4000

Names of NEW print queues to add
    HP-GL/2 []
PCL(Hangeul Character printing as code) []
PCL(Hangeul Character printing as image) []
    PCL QUEUE NAME
    PostScript []

    Printer connection characteristics
HOSTNAME of the JetDirect Card []
    PORT 9100
Hope this formatting came out okay.

Yes, this is the remote printer. I didnt set this printer, this was setup by someone long back.

How can we fix this issue? do i need to recreate this queue OR is there any other way to fix this issue.

First is the remote printer INGHW01 simply a Jet direct printer? A network printer is a network printer so you can print to it from anywhere on the network.

Do you actually need a remote printer with a different name or can you just make the queue name what you need it to be? Like you have a queue name of INGOHW01 but the remote name is TEXT_P1. Can you just make the queue name TEXT_P1? Or are you forced to use this method? If you have to use this method I will have to look at some old notes.
Can you borrow one to test with? If so test it by making a new HPJetDirect queue with driver as HP4000,set it as "do not boot", and pick the PCL type like I showed you. Put in your hostname+(I usually use the queue name)+ and the default port 9100 is fine. Don't make any changes except for the font and page length stuff. Just let it run with the defaults and no remote queue involved. Send a few large jobs to it & monitor. what are the results?
