PowerVM VIOS 4.1 can built on top of AIX 7.2 TL4? The customer are planning to use IBM E1050 with AIX 7.2 TL4 but want to use VIOS 4.1 to support some models of SAN storage direct connect.

I don't quite understand the question.

    VIOS is it's own lpar.

Is the aix 7.2 TL4 you're talking about an existing lpar?  Are you trying to see if that is compatible if the VIOS lpar is 4.1?  Or are you trying to put VIOS on the same lpar as your existing AIX lpar?

I'll assume we're talking about two different lpars:  AIX and VIOS.  To see if they are compatible with each other you could run this all through the FLRT or Fix Level Recommendation Tool, at

    https://esupport.ibm.com/customercare/flrt/report?pageNm=home&plat=power&p0.mtm=9043-MRX&p0.fw=MM1050_088&p1.parnm=Partition+1&p1.os=aix&p1.aix=7200-04-06-2220&p2.parnm=Partition+2&p2.os=vios&p2.vios=4.1.1.0&btnGo=SUBMIT

You might want to add what version of HMC you're running into that mix.

IBM PowerVM IOS 4.1 is an operating system that is dedicated to providing virtualization services.
IT is based on AIX 7.3, but is not a generic AIX operating system.
PowerVM IOS 4.1 is a stand alone operating system that is installed via two mksysb images onto a LPAR configuration denoted as a VIO server.

Hi Robert, sorry to make you confused, it's different LPARs. I'm trying to see are there any compatible between VIOS version with AIX version, or not? For example, we cannot install AIX 7.2 TL4 or below on the Power10 server that already installed VIOS 4.1.0 (just an example). or it's not related.

Did you read the rest of my reply?

I'll assume we're talking about two different lpars:  AIX and VIOS.  To see if they are compatible with each other you could run this all through the FLRT or Fix Level Recommendation Tool, at

    E1050 FLRT sample

You can click on Power Systems at the top to modify the report and update whatever level of firmware, hmc, etc you're running.  Add an os (like IBM i) if needed also.
